Brand Overview

Goodles is a brand that has completely reimagined the mac and cheese category, blending high-quality nutrition with a bold and incredibly colorful personality. Known for their vibrant packaging and energetic community, the brand’s visual identity is all about joy, brightness, and a noodle-loving spirit. They don't just sell pasta; they sell a fun, modern lifestyle that doesn't take itself too seriously.

Project Objective

I initiated this spec shoot with a twofold goal: to demonstrate my ability to adapt to a specific brand’s established visual DNA and to expand my portfolio into a more vibrant, high-energy aesthetic. Because I didn’t have a direct brief from the brand, I performed deep research into their digital presence and messaging to ensure the imagery I created would feel like a seamless extension of their existing marketing. The objective was to produce a gallery that reflected the fun, personality-filled vibe of the Goodles brand while reaching out to a potential client to showcase my versatility as a commercial photographer.

 
 

Production Challenges

Executing a spec shoot without direct brand input presents a unique challenge. I had to rely entirely on my own research to glean the core values and visual requirements of the brand from their internet presence alone. Additionally, this project required me to step outside of the soft and airy style I am frequently known for and lean into a world of saturated colors and high-contrast energy. Another significant variable was directing a young model with a huge personality; while his silly side was exactly what the shoot needed, it required a high level of engagement and quick thinking to ensure we got the right shots while keeping the energy high and the product looking its best.

Creative Process

My strategy for navigating these variables began with a comprehensive audit of Goodles’ web presence. To mirror their iconic look, I curated a selection of bold, colored backdrops and engineered a simple professional lighting setup that emphasized a pop of bold and bright lighting. To bring the brand's fun-loving spirit to life, I directed our young model through high-energy prompts, allowing his natural personality to lead the scenes.

By leaning into his silliness, I was able to create a series of candid, joyful moments that felt authentic to the Goodles brand. Even without direct communication from their team, this process allowed me to build a cohesive gallery that proves I can execute on-brand imagery for a variety of industries. This experience reinforced the value of portfolio building—not just for the final images, but for the growth that comes from experimenting with a totally different creative vibe.
