Black Stallion Patio Shoot

High-End Brand Storytelling for Premium Wine Marketing

Brand Overview

Black Stallion Estate Winery is rooted in the rich history of the Napa Valley, occupying the site of a former equestrian center. The brand carries a legacy of grace and strength, reflected in their premium portfolio of wines. Their identity is defined by a traditional and sophisticated aesthetic. Black Stallion positions itself as a staple for the discerning enthusiast who appreciates the art of hosting and the quiet luxury of a well-poured glass of wine in a refined setting.

Project Objective

The goal for this project was to create a cohesive collection of outdoor lifestyle assets that position Black Stallion as the centerpiece of sophisticated entertaining. I focused on directing a series of product-forward scenes that maintained a traditional aesthetic. By executing minimal but intentional table setups—utilizing elements like aged cheeses, linen napkins, and wood textures—I was able to elevate the product without allowing the props to compete with the branding.

I prioritized creating compositions where the wine labels remained the clear focus, even while incorporating human elements like hands and arms to imply a hosting narrative. By directing these setups to feel both aspirational and grounded, I provided the brand with a library of images that speak directly to a demographic that values class and simplicity in their lifestyle choices.

Production Challenges

Although this shoot honestly held little challenge for me, the primary logistical hurdle involved sourcing talent who could provide the specific, high-end wardrobe required by the brief. Finding a model with the right sophisticated attire—clean, classic, and pattern-free—is essential for maintaining a traditional aesthetic. Additionally, I needed to ensure that the styling remained varied across the gallery without letting the props overshadow the wine itself. Balancing the need for diverse imagery with a focused, minimal setup required a strategic approach to prop selection and timing.

Creative Process

I utilized my own patio as the location for this shoot, which naturally aligned with the brand's sophisticated outdoor lifestyle vibe. To create a diverse range of visuals, I designed two distinct charcuterie boards—one savory and one sweet—allowing me to shift the mood of the scenes while keeping the wine bottle as the central focus. I recruited my brother to step in as the model with a classic outfit that fit the high-end look we were targeting without looking too stuffy.

We took advantage of the natural evening light to enhance the mood. By directing specific interactions—such as pouring a glass or holding the bottle—I was able to execute a series of shots that felt like a genuine evening of entertaining. This collaborative and relaxed process resulted in a polished collection of assets that showcase the product in a way that feels both aspirational and deeply personal.
