Commercial Product Photography for Fridge Magnets
Brand Overview
Three by Three Seattle is a sustainable home goods brand creating stylish but functional home goods, gifts, and organization products. Their products range from felt bins and dryer balls to art kits and magnets. They are a small, woman-owned company based in Seattle, Washington.
Project Objective
This project actually spanned multiple photo shoots over the course of a year +. The objective was to create imagery surrounding Three by Three’s line of fun fridge magnets. We worked these shots into other product photoshoots we were working on as the different magnet designs were launched or became seasonally applicable.
Production Challenges
Shooting product images of tiny magnets while also including the surrounding lifestyle scene is challenging because you want the magnet to stand out even though it’s small, but we didn’t want to shoot too close. We wanted some environment in the image past the magnet, and we wanted to include models in every shot. In addition, we had a large variety of magnets and didn’t want every image to look the same, so getting a lot of variety between shots was challenging.
Creative Process
Shooting these images interspersed between a bunch of other products and shoot dates made it easier to include a variety of different models in these images. My client was able to help with the creative process by bringing photo and card props that we could use the magnets with to switch up the images as well, pairing magnet themes with images in a fun and creative way. We were using a mini fridge for most of these images, so we had to get creative with model placement, sometimes even having the model stick their head in the fridge to get the right framing.
