Little Green Design

Product Photography for Local Artist’s Greeting Cards and Home Goods

Brand Overview

Little Green Design is a local brand brought to life by artist Katie Dean. Her process is deeply rooted in the tactile arts, starting with hand-carved linoleum blocks that are printed on an antique letterpress. These original works are then thoughtfully adapted into a variety of products, from greeting cards to textiles. Her work stands out for its commitment to the beauty of the handmade process and the excellence of the final product. Little Green Design creates items that bring a sense of joy and a well-crafted aesthetic to everyday life.

Project Objective

This project included creating imagery for a few household items, like tea towels and Swedish dishcloths, but the main focus was on showcasing Katie’s beautifully crafted greeting cards.

My objective was to provide a visual narrative that aligned with the different themes within her work. This meant creating distinct setups—some leaning into a cottage and farmhouse vintage aesthetic, and others embracing a more woodland and natural vibe. To ensure the final assets were versatile for both her website and social media, I produced a mix of styled flatlays and dynamic compositions with added depth and perspective. This variety allows the brand to tell a fuller story of how these products fit into a well-loved home while highlighting the fine details of the letterpress-inspired designs.

Production Challenges

When the product is this beautiful, the primary challenge is actually deciding how to best honor the work while providing a varied gallery. I found that I had to be very intentional to move beyond the temptation of creating only flatlay compositions. While flatlays are classic and effective for greeting cards, I pushed myself to incorporate more dynamic, upright shots to create a sense of depth and life, as well as variety in the gallery.

Creative Process

My creative process for this shoot began with an extensive focus on styling and prop sourcing to hit the specific vintage and woodland themes Katie requested. I curated a selection of props that included materials Katie sent with the product, natural elements I gathered myself, and a few store-bought items to round out the aesthetic. I spent a full day in the studio meticulously arranging these elements to build out the different scenes. By balancing simple flatlays with more dimensional compositions, I created imagery that highlights both the detail of the hand-carved art and the way these products feel in a real home environment.
