Bookmark Product Imagery for Three by Three

Commercial Product Photography for Bespoke Reading Accessories

Brand Overview

Three by Three Seattle is a home organization brand committed to creating stylish, simple, and functional solutions for a clutter-free life. Their focus is on products that are both aesthetically pleasing and highly practical, as well as fun. Their mission is to simplify busy lives without compromising on design.

Project Objective

The objective for this project was to create a set of lifestyle imagery for the launch of Three by Three Seattle's new line of bookmarks. We needed to create visually compelling content suitable for multiple marketing channels, including e-commerce listings on their website, social media advertising, and materials used to pitch the product to third-party sellers, such as bookstores and other retailers. The photos needed to effectively showcase the bookmarks in use and integrate them seamlessly into reading and home environments.

Production Challenges

The primary challenge of this product photo shoot stemmed from the small scale and dual-sided design of the product. The bookmarks feature a ribbon connecting two small, themed charms (e.g., a cat and a ball of yarn, a fisherman and a fish). It was crucial to keep these small charms as the central focus of the image while simultaneously including enough of the surrounding environment to qualify as lifestyle imagery. The difficulty lay in visually communicating the entire product—both charms connected by the ribbon—without pulling the camera back so far that the individual charms lost prominence and detail.

Creative Process

To overcome this challenge of maintaining focus on the small charms, we employed a variety of staging solutions. We utilized a model to pose the bookmark in different ways while reading, strategically placing her hands so that both charms were near each other to keep them in a tight frame. In other compositions, we focused heavily on one charm, allowing the second charm and the surrounding elements (like the book) to fall slightly out of focus. This approach ensured that the unique design of the charms remained the hero of the image, while still conveying the bookmark's functionality in a realistic, lifestyle context.

Love these pics, as always! Just the right vibe, beautiful light, relaxed model, so great! I know the bookmark shots weren't easy, you totally pulled it off…so excited to do promos with these.
