Sunbrella Throw Blanket
Lifestyle Home Goods Product Imagery for Mother's Day Ad Campaign
Brand Overview
Sunbrella is a pioneer in the fabric industry, having defined the high-performance category since 1961. Their brand is built on the belief that living well starts with feeling at ease, which is why they create fabrics and products engineered to handle the elements while remaining soft and inviting. By blending durability with a vivid, tactile reality, they help people worry less and enjoy more. Sunbrella remains synonymous with quality and innovation, ensuring that every product they bring to life is as functional as it is beautiful.
Project Objective
The objective for this shoot was to create a suite of elevated, natural lifestyle imagery for Mother’s Day ad creatives. My goal was to showcase a Sunbrella throw in use in a way that felt effortless and authentic, avoiding staged gifting scenes or overly emotional reactions. The focus was on depicting quiet, everyday outdoor moments, such as sipping tea on a sunlit patio or relaxing on outdoor furniture, where the throw was integrated naturally into the scene.
Production Challenges
The primary challenge for this project was the timing of the brief. I received the project in early spring, which meant my outdoor space was not yet staged or ready for the season. Creating a warm, summer-ready environment while it was still technically off-season required a significant amount of preparation and setup. I also had to navigate the unpredictable weather, but fortunately, the day of the shoot provided a clear afternoon with a bit of sunlight peaking through and the natural light necessary to achieve the bright and airy aesthetic Sunbrella required. Because the scope was specific to four final assets, I had to be very intentional with my setup to ensure every shot was productive and high-quality.
Creative Process
My creative process began with preparing the patio to look like a lived-in, relaxing space despite the early season. I hired my sister-in-law to model and her young daughter to assist with the intimate detail shots where a human connection was needed. I directed the styling toward elevated neutral clothing to ensure the wardrobe complemented rather than distracted from the throw’s color and texture.
To create the quiet, everyday moments requested by the brand, I used props like a book and a cup of tea, which allowed the product to be integrated naturally into the scene. I focused on compositions that felt authentic and unposed, keeping the shoot short and on point to create the best results.
