Nailing Your Brand Photoshoot: Last-Minute Must-Dos

Brand Photoshoot Guide

I’m writing this blog for my clients. I’m writing because I want you to feel confident that your brand photoshoot will be a success! Having recently had my own brand photos taken, I was reminded of just how anxiety-inducing it can be to be in front of the camera. You want to represent your brand well and there are a lot of little things at play, from making sure your outfits are perfect to making sure you don’t forget to bring a prop you want to use, to insecurities about how we look and so much in-between.

So, here are 5 things I recommend doing the day before your brand photoshoot that will help you prepare and feel more confident going into your photoshoot day!

Picking outfits for a personal brand photoshoot

1. Review your photoshoot guide. For those of you who are not my clients yet, I put together and photoshoot guide for my clients that details the shot list, inspiration images, and lists all the props you should bring. It’s also got a reminder of the time we are meeting and location of your shoot. I recommend reviewing this the day before because it will help you to make sure you’ve got all your ducks in a row.

2. Do a final outfit try-on. You’ve probably (hopefully) been thinking through your outfits for a while now, but I find that it is a good idea to try everything on the night before and make sure you love how you look in each outfit and that you have all the right shoes and accessories to go with each one. At the very least I recommend laying them all out. There are lots of ways to pack them up, but if you have a garment bag it’s the best way to transport them without getting too wrinkled in the process.

Picking Props for a Brand Photoshoot

3. Practice posing in front of the mirror. I know it may feel awkward, but it’s super helpful so that you know how your body looks when you move certain ways and it will help you feel more natural in front of the camera. In my guide, I show examples of images and poses we may emulate for your shoot. You can use that as a guide to practice how the poses feel too.

4. Don’t forget to pack up your props! If you have more than a few things, I recommend using Rubbermaid bins for easy and organized transport. Of course, I’ve included a list of what you don’t want to forget in your shoot guide, but don’t be afraid to pack extra random things too. I’d rather have too many props and outfits than not enough ;)

5. Have everything laid out or packed and ready to go the night before. When I am preparing for a photoshoot, I like to pack up all my props and non-valuable items that I will need into my car the night before, and then lay out valuables like my laptop and camera ready to go by the door, just to be extra prepared and feel ready for the shoot.

I hope this list of things to do the day before your brand photoshoot helps you to feel prepared and confident as you go into shoot day!
