One Simple Click to Higher Engagement on Instagram
It’s no secret that we all wish we had higher engagement on Instagram, right? So what if I told you that I have one simple thing that will boost your engagement by 79%?
Well, it’s true. I do! Instagram posts with location tags get 79% higher engagement than posts without location tags (according to socialsprout.com). 79%. That’s a lot! And it’s the simplest thing to geotag your post.
Here’s how: Pull up the photo you are going to post and start to post as normal. When you are in the screen where you write your caption, look at the third field down under “tag people,” there is a field that says “add location.” You can either pick from a location that auto-populated below or you can click on “add location” and search for any location in the world (you don’t have to actually be present at the location when you post). Then proceed to posting as usual and the location will show under your username when you post. (See screenshots below for a visual on how to geotag your post.)
When you add your location, what you are doing is adding your post to a pool of posts at that location. So you can use the search function on Instagram to search the location and your post should pop up there.
The reason geotagging your location works is because some people (myself included) use Instagram like they would Google or Yelp, to search for restaurants and other businesses nearby. It’s similar to hashtagging your content with location based hashtags (which you should be doing as well!), or to having an active google listing for your business. The more places and way someone could stumble across your business the better!
